SK Telecom’s New Business Division is tasked with the development, execution, and support of global business activities, the Company’s new growth engine. Presently, SK Telecom has offices and facilities in Vietnam, China, the U.S. and many other countries. Through these overseas outposts SK Telecom constantly seeks out new business opportunities, while developing and operating ongoing business operations. In time, the pivotal role of New Business Division will become even greater as SK Telecom nears its vision of becoming a true world leader.

To successfully carry out the job responsibilities of the New Business Division, employees need to be keenly aware of SK Telecom’s management principles, should fully understand the characteristics of the Company’s domestic core business, and also possess competitive global capabilities. The main tasks of global business operations are establishing strategies, developing business, negotiating with global partners, executing local business, and supporting business affairs.
Establishing Global Strategies
This involves setting direction and guidelines for execution of global business. Drawing the “big picture” or the outlines of business operations, including determining strategic regions, business models, roadmaps, and resource plan.
Developing Business
This entails developing MNO, MVNO and other business opportunities in strategic global regions, and is executed according to type of project. Work includes devising various business models for many regions, and therefore, the global capabilities of the task force are absolutely crucial
Negotiating
Due to the peculiar characteristics of the telecommunications business, genuine global partners do exist, and therefore negotiations regarding mergers and acquisitions, cooperation, and alliances need to be made. Establishment of negotiating tactics, on-site inspections, and the process of negotiation requires more talent and competence than any other business field.

This division handles various forms of business in areas all around the globe, such as S-Fone (MNO) in Vietnam, Helio (MVNO) in the United States, and UniSK (wireless internet) in China. In addition to the team directly involved with a specific project, there are many other activities working as part of the overall operation, including local information gathering and business opportunity exploration.

Business Support
The New Business Division also operates the Center of Excellence (COE) to spread and utilize the business experience, know-how and capabilities accumulated in the domestic market to the global market, and thereby strengthen the competitiveness of the local business.
