The Intellectual Property Department is promptly coping with the situation so as to ensure the expanding business scope of the company.
Major activities of the department include protecting the Company's rights to patents, trademarks and copyrights, identifying newly emerging ideas, investigating earlier technologies, assessing infringement, framing PMs (Patent Maps), preparing and examining IP-related contract documents, notifying risks and devising precautions, handling IP-related disputes and litigation, and improving and promoting licensing strategies. The department is also carrying out global projects to prepare the legal foundation for SK Telecom to expand its business into overseas markets.
As the individuals and groups with various stakes increase in number, there is a rising need to minimize the associated risks by understanding and observing statutes and systems regarding fair trade, consumer protection and ensuring confidentiality of personal information.
Established under such circumstances, the Company's Compliance Department take charge of establishing and executing fair trade implementation strategies. Major activities of the department involve legally scrutinizing and building logical arguments regarding issues raised by customers, shareholders, employees, Business Partners, NGOs, etc., in the course of the Company's business activities, dealing with investigations by official entities such as the Fair Trade Commission, and legal assistance regarding issues raised by government institutions such as the Ministry of Information and Communication.
Moreover, it provides diverse notification and consulting services such as risk consulting and screening in business and customer fields like marketing strategies, product development, sales projection and customer management ranging from establishing business models to improving utilizing systems, monitoring, educating employees to observe relevant statutes, and operating and improving the Company's Compliance Program.
