2000.06.30SK Telecom Introduces Wireless Payment Service for Diners on the Train
Starting on July 1, you can pay for your dinner you have on the Samaul Class trains running on either the Kyungbu Line or Honam Line with your credit cards.
SK Telecom and the Restaurant Business Division of Hanhwa Development Company said that they had built a credit card payment system for diners on the train and the new service would be available from July 1.
Hanhwas Restaurant Business Division and the Railway Authority began to discuss about a wireless payment system for people traveling on the train in April in order to increase user convenience and effectively respond to increased use of credit cards. Then SK Telecom completed developing a new system built on its wireless data network that enables users to get their credit card payment approved wireless.
Users need to wait approximately 6 seconds for approval after hooking up with the wireless credit card reader and the Speed 011 handset. And since the wireless data service rates will be charged for the service, users will be able to save up to 80% of the charges they pay for wireline phone services.
For now, the availability of the new wireless payment service will be limited only to those who travel on the Samaul Class trains running on the Kyungbu Line and Honam Line. By the end of the year, however, the service will be expanded to cover all Samaul Class trains.
