SK Telecom Rolls Out International Roaming Call Transfer Service
2000.08.29Speed 011 users can now use the same number they use within the country when they travel any of 120-plus countries around the world.
SK Telecom said that for the first time in Korea the company would start offering international call transfer service that connects incoming call to any 011 numbers directly to the international roaming terminals starting September 1.
As the new service becomes available, SK Telecom?s mobile service Speed 011 users can now use their mobile numbers in any of the 120-plus countries where the service available regardless which mobile standards ? GSM or CDMA ? the country is using without additional costs if they request for the call transfer service when they sign up for international roaming services.
In addition, SK Telecom whose international roaming service covers the largest number of countries among the local mobile service providers will add Hong Kong to Japan and Australia in October, and further expand the service to include Thailand, U.S. and Malaysia.
Furthermore, the company plans to roll out automatic roaming service with the GSM mode using the UIM (User Identity Module) card equipped with the added feature for mobile electronic commerce (M-Commerce) during the first half of next year in relation to the spread of IS-95C service.
SK Telecom began to deliver international roaming service with the U.S. June 1996, and became the first local company that offers roaming service with the countries using the GSM mode in November the following year. It has continued to expand the coverage of its roaming service ever since and now more than 120 countries are being covered.
Speed 011 users can use the call transfer service by requesting the service when they sign up for international roaming service and pressing a few buttons on the handset.
