SK Telecom Signs the IMT-2000 Handset Joint Development Agreement
2000.09.22SK Telecom and CyberBank signed the IMT-2000-enabled Handset Joint Development Agreement
To jointly develop software for mobile Internet handsets and the two-way video phone
SK Telecom and CyberBank made an agreement to join forces in developing handsets that support the third-generation mobile service IMT-2000 on September 21 at a signing ceremony held at the SK Telecom Central Lab in Bundang, Kyonggi Province.
Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly develop software programs for mobile Internet handsets and the two-way video phone that support IMT-2000 services, and share information, data and research facilities necessary in the handset development.
SK Telecom?s decision to join forces with CyberBank was motivated by its determination to secure competitive handset technologies that would be needed once IMT-2000 services become commercially available at an early stage, and dynamically respond to the rapidly changing telecom market environment.
In addition, SK Telecom will continue to pursue making joint efforts with small- and mid-sized companies in technological development in the areas of,
? Mobile Internet: Protocols, gateway and call quality
? Network operation: Network management, wireless network operation and quality control
? Contents: Development and creation of service contents
? Core components: Core component manufacturing
