To join hands with ten high-tech startups including Cyber Map World and BroadCom to jointly develop core technologies for IMT-2000 services
Parties to the agreements to collaborate in the areas of network operation, system component manufacturing and mobile Internet
SK Telecom is reinforcing collaboration with small-sized startup companies for early development of the core technologies for IMT-2000 services.
SK Telecom announced today that it had signed agreements for strategic alliance with 10 small high-tech startup companies including Cyber Map World and BraodCom to jointly develop core technologies needed for IMT-2000 services.
The company has been pushing for collaborative relationships with several small startup companies with promising technologies or strong R&D capabilities in the relevant fields through joint development agreements for the development of IMT-2000 core technologies since late last year.
The agreements signed today include four in the mobile Internet area, two for the network operation technology development, and four in the core component technology development.
In the mobile Internet area, SK Telecom agrees to work together with Cyber Map World on ?mobile electronic map service?; with BroadCom on ?the wireless PDA equipped with Bluetooth sensors?; with AbleCome on ?transcoding technology for multimedia streaming for IMT-2000?; and with Korea Telesys on ?mobile Internet security system.?
In the network operation area, SK Telecom will develop ?IMT-2000 base station network management technology based on CTI? with Sun Telecom, and ?intelligent software for wireless network management and quality control? with H&K.
In the core component technology area, the company will develop ?IMT-2000 AV CODEC? with Magic I; ?IMT-2000 base station filters? with Telwave; ?handset RF component using CMOS RF technology? with Stelsys Telecom; and ?mini fingerprint reader to be loaded on the IMT-2000 handsets? with Secure Net/Barson Tech.
SK Telecom is pushing for collaboration with promising startups aggressively because it will allow the company to remain the leader in the fast-changing industry adapting to the rapid technological changes with agility by securing competitive operation technologies at an early stage and to be ready when commercial IMT-2000 service is introduced.
