SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) was again recognized by the world for its innovation capabilities for next-generation Wi-Fi technology and won the WBA Industry Award for the sixth consecutive year.
On November 1, SK Telecom announced that it won the award for ‘Best Consumer-Centric Wireless Innovation’ at the Wireless Broadband Alliance Industry Award held in London, UK on October 31.
Celebrating its seventh anniversary, the Wireless Broadband Alliance Industry Awards is hosted by the Wireless Broadband Alliance, an industry association to promote interoperability between operators in the Wi-Fi industry, whose members include ICT companies and Wi-Fi equipment vendors throughout the world, such as AT&T, NTT DoCoMo, Qualcomm and Cisco.
SK Telecom explained that the company’s steady provision of service through its next-generation Wi-Fi technology, ‘T Wi-Fi AX’ in areas with congested user traffic such as, COEX in Samsung-dong and U-Square in Gwangju was the background of being honored with the award.
‘T Wi-Fi AX’ is an 802.11ax standards-based service providing up to 4.8Gbps per AP, and offers OFDMA and MU-MIMO, enabling simultaneous data transmission for multiple users. Furthermore, it utilizes various Wi-Fi performance technologies such as the Dynamic Sensitivity Control (DSC) in AP condensed areas to enhance the quality of service.
In addition, SK Telecom also proved its technological competitiveness by initially developing the ‘IoT (Internet of Things) Dedicated Wi-Fi Technology’ based on 802.11ah standards. This technology can accommodate up to 1,000 devices, from simple sensors to high-capacity IoT devices.
The company has provided the basis for accommodating secure home wireless network services with security gateway technology that can monitor and block remote cyber-attacks on IoT devices.
Meanwhile, SK Telecom participated in the ‘Wireless Global Congress 2018’ exhibition, hosted by the Wireless Broadband Alliance and showcased its ‘T Wi-Fi AX’ related equipment and technology to the global audience.
“We will strive to continue the development of innovative technologies to provide the best network service to our valued customers,” said Park Jong-kwan, Senior Vice President and Head of Network R&D Center.
