SK Telecom Showcases IMT-2000 Service at the Presidential Inauguration
1998.02.18SK Telecom (President: Jung Uck Seo) introduces its IMT-2000 system during a program entitled "Road to the 21st Century Information Society" to be held as part of the presidential inaugural ceremony at the National Assembly Members’ Building from February 19 through 25. SK Telecom is the first company in Korea and the third in the world that succeeded in developing the trial system.
During the program, SK Telecom is showcasing three new services the system allows; wireless video call service that satisfies people’s natural desire to see each other’s face while talking to each other and at the same time guarantees maximized mobility; wireless Internet access that has all the capabilities of the wire Internet access such as retrieving information online or picking up the email; video veiwing on the IMT-200 terminal.
IMT-2000 or International Mobile Telecommunication for the 2000’s is the next generation mobile communications system expected to roll out during the next decade. It is often referred to as "dream service" that will enable a wide range of multimedia applications currently unavailable through cell phone service or PCS due to their limited bandwidth capacity. The service will be available all across the world and require no more than a single terminal.
The IMT-2000 service will become available beginning 2002 when Korea hosts the World Cup Games.
