Press Release
Award given in recognition of SKT?s contribution to commercializing cdma2000-1x for the first in the world.
On June 12, the CDMA Development Group (CDG) presented SK
Telecom with its International Leadership Award at the CDMA World Congress, being held in Hong Kong. The distinction was bestowed on SK Telecom for the company?s role in launching the world?s first commercial cdma2000-1x service, which operates at 153Kbps, in October 2000. The CDG presents awards annually to companies and countries involved in CDMA technology, and this year they were given to honor achievement in 3G technology and systems.
Corporate CDG members as well as people of the media (analysts, journalists), including the Yankee Group, submit vote for the CDG award winners to a panel of judges from Newsweek and The Times. Thus, SK Telecom?s selection signifies global recognition both inside and outside the industry.
Last year, SK Telecom won the CDG Service Innovation Award for being the world?s first to commercialize IS-95B technology. The company was also selected Best CDMA Operator at Communicasia, sponsored by Telecomasia.
According to Sr. Managing Director Kim Il-joong, chief of the SK Telecom Network Operations Division, ?The world?s top information and communications organizations have chosen SK Telecom as an IT leader because Korean information technology is seen as world class. In the future, domestic IT companies will work even harder to lead the industry globally.?
