Press Release
Net income of 1.14 trillion Korean won was recorded on total sales of 6.227 trillion won.
Sales of wireless Internet service increased 99%, while the company?s monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) increased 14%.
On February 6, SK Telecom (www.sktelecom.com) announced that the company achieved a net income of 1.14 trillion won and total sales of 6.227 trillion won for 2001. In addition, ordinary income came to 1.761 trillion won.
SK Telecom?s total sales and net income for 2001 increased 466.2 billion won (8.1%) and 189.7 billion won (20%) respectively over the previous year. Ordinary income showed a 400.5 billion won (29.4%) increase from 2000.
Thanks to the increased volume of voice call traffic and wireless Internet use, the company?s ARPU for 2001 increased 14% over the previous year. These are the important factors in explaining the increase of total sales for 2001. This occurred in spite of the stagnation in the number of subscribers due to restricted marketing activities from the restriction of market share and ban on handset subsidies.
However, these restricted marketing activities contributed to the increase of the company?s net income.
In addition, thanks to the company?s continued implementation of a policy of qualitative growth through securing high quality customers, the service cancellation ratio in 2001 was 1.12%, decreasing from 2.4% in 2000. Customized marketing activities such as NATE and UTO, among others, were successfully launched in the second half of 2001. Furthermore, the number of the world?s first commercial CDMA 2000 1X service subscribers skyrocketed to 2.73 million as of the end of 2001. These factors also contributed to the outstanding business performance of SK Telecom.
SK Shinsegi Telecomm achieved net income of 119 billion won and total sales of 2.007 trillion won for 2001.
