SK Telecom, Renault Samsung Motors, and Samsung Electronics, Reached an Agreement to Jointly Implement a Telematics Business

On April 12th 2002 in SK’s building, SK Telecom(www.sktelecom.com) reached an agreement with Renault Samsung Motors(www.renaultsamsungm.com), and Samsung Electronics (www.sec.co.kr) to jointly develop a Telematics business. In this regard, the three companies set the goal to jointly launch a commercial product by the first part of 2003. SK Telecom will provide the cellular phone network and NATE Drive service and Renault Samsung Motors will
install Telematics-enabled terminals in the vehicles. In addition, Samsung Electronics will move ahead with a plan to develop Telematics-enabled terminals.
SK Telecom expects to expand its customer base of NATE Drive services, while Renault Samsung Motors increase their brand values by launching new services. Samsung Electronics also expects to gain an increasing the share in the Telematics-enabled terminal market.
Through the Telematics-enabled terminal for vehicles, customers can enjoy full-fledged Telematics services such as vehicle control, vehicle diagnosis, traffic information, and destination guide, among others by using a GPS (Global
Positioning System).
