SK Telink Advances into the Cellular Phone’s International Collect Call Service Market
2002.04.15 PrintStarting on April 15, the company will provide ?SK DC Collect Call Service? for domestic cellular users.
Its call rate is up to 70% more economical than existing call rates. The company expects 10 billion Korean won in sales from this service by 2005.
SK Telink (www.00700.co.kr), Korea?s largest specially designated telecommunication operator, announced its entry into the cellular phone international collect call market that has been the main field of facility-based telecommunication operators.
The cellular phone international collect call service allows users to conveniently make an international call through their original cellular handset used in Korea by pressing a country access number without additional activation procedures while they are staying in an overseas country.
Beginning on April 15th, 2002, SK Telink plans to furnish this service for prefix number 011, 017, 019 subscribers with the brand called ?SK DC Collect Call?. From May 1st, the service will be expanded to prefix number 016 and 018 cellular subscribers.
SK Telink will carry out strategic marketing approaches by heavily focusing on economical call rates and the convenience of an automatic connection system that is unlike the manually operated connection systems of facility-based telecommunication operators. The call rate is a maximum 70% more economical than those of existing service providers.
Yeoung Hak Choi, leader of the Corporate Business Team of SK Telink stated ?We will drive new types of competition in the existing cellular phone?s international collect call service market with the most economical call rates and automatic connection system?. SK Telink will reach the goal of achieving 10 billion won in sales from this service by implementing aggressive marketing activities for tourists, businesspersons, and overseas trainees in cooperation with travel agencies? he added.
At present, the size of the international collect call market is 80 billion won per year and facility-based telecommunication operators such as KT, Dacom, and Once Telecom are competing for this market.
