SK Telecom Donates Traveling Mobile Medical Bus Unit
2002.08.27This is the second Mobile Medical Unit donation to Global Care Since 1999. SK Telecom has now furnished medical equipment with a 200 million won value.
Its first service effort was to support relief from flood damages in Gimhae city. The company formed and dispatched a relief squad to the scene in cooperation with World Vision.
SK Telecom (www.sktelecom.com) manufactured the mobile medical bus units, loaded emergency medical equipment, and donated them to Global Care (www.globalcare.or.kr) which is staffed by volunteer medical personnel.
It provides facilities for simple operations, as well as general medical examination and treatment, being furnished with all kinds of medical equipment costing about 200 million won. With this unit, Global Care is constantly touring and giving free medical service to people who live in areas that are out of reach economically and physically of regular medical care and consultation.
In 1999, SK Telecom already produced the first mobile medical bus unit and donated it to Global Care.
As the first mobile medical unit service project, SK Telecom and Global Care partnered with World Vision (www.worldvision.or.kr) to give free medical treatment and relief service to more than one thousand households that were struck and damaged by flooding at Hanrim Town in Gimhae city.
Together with World Vision, the company provides "Emergency Relief Supply Sets" containing 12 kinds of necessities of life, such as instant noodles, lavatory paper, clothing, and food, to all of the flood victim households.
The Ceremony for "Donating the Traveling Mobile Medical Bus Unit and Forming the United Relief Squad" was held on the first floor of SK Telecom’s Main Office on the 27th of August. The main participants were Moon Soo Pyo, president of SK Telecom, Byung Soo Kim, CEO of Global Care, Jae Sik Oh, chairman of World Vision, Anchorman Byum Soo Son, Public Relations Ambassador of Global Care, and Movie Star Sang Won Park, Goodwill Ambassador of World Vision.
At the ceremony, Moon Soo Pyo, president of SK Telecom commented, "I am extremely pleased this could be a foundation for reaching out to people who can’t afford basic medical care. I am also very sure that the devoted efforts from other organizations will be of great support and encouragement to the flood damaged area residents".
Jae Sik Oh, chairman of World Vision, also expressed "We as World Vision members will put forth our best efforts to provide all kinds of help to the people who are suffering the heavy torrential rain damage".
On top of this, SK Telecom has already raised and donated flood funds totaling 2.5 billion won, made up of 1.5 billion won from the main group office, and 1 billion won from each of the five branch offices.
