SK Telecom Demonstrates the Cutting-Edge Services of the 1x EV-DO Network at PT/ EXPO COMM CHINA 2002

With an already strong demand for wireless Internet service in China, a variety of advanced communication that will become the main part of near future Chinese communication service, are being shown and given trial performances.
For the first time in China, SK Telecom showcased the CDMA2000 1x EV-DO network, and presented all kinds of cutting-edge wireless communication services, while actively participating in the ’PT/EXPO COMM CHINA 2002’ at Beijing from the 29th of October to the 2nd of November.
’PT/EXPO COMM CHINA 2002’, the largest specialized information communication exhibition in Asia, was sponsored by the Ministry of Information Industry and run by major Chinese telecommunication business providers. 525 companies from 29 countries that are already doing business in China, or launching into its market, participated in the exhibition.
The company built a 364? booth at the exhibition hall 2 and installed a video phone system to demonstrate a wide range of wireless Internet services such as VOD, next generation LBS, wireless transactions, video e-mail, NATE Drive and NATE PDA . All of these facilities were available for visitors to try them for themselves.
Two services, ’NATE Photo’ that lets you take photos with a cellular phone, then send or print instantly on the spot, and ’Monetary Plus’ which allows monetary transactions using a cellular phone at the subway cash machine, vending machines, and ATMs are expected to become very popular with Chinese visitors.
SK Telecom is well aware of the fact that the high-speed wireless network and wireless Internet are becoming the hot issue in the Chinese communication market. To respond to this trend, we have adopted the slogan ’WITH (Wireless Internet Telecommunication for Humanity).
SK Telecom plans to introduce advanced solutions that increase the added value of a cellular phone network to the Chinese mobile communication providers that are still mainly focused on voice communication.
On top of participating in the exhibition, the company is conducting intensive promotional activities, through the Chinese Press, that inform the public about the value of having wireless Internet service using the superior technology of SK Telecom.
On the 29th of October, the opening day of the exhibition, John Liu -CEO of ’SK Telecom China’ invited 14 major Chinese press reporters to tour the exhibition booth and have friendly social talks. Other members of our wireless Internet and network departments will also have valuable interviews with the Chinese press.
Last July, SK Telecom and China Unicom concluded an MOU for a JV(Joint Venture) to develop and manage a wireless Internet business, and both companies are talking and working together to set up a cooperation in the direction and range of a joint business.
The two companies have high expectations for this exhibition to perform a valuable role in demonstrating the vision for mobile communication services, and form a positive business environment for its success.
