ITU Secretary General Tarjanne Visits SK Telecom

Dr. Pekka Tarijanne, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union, visits SK Telecom (President: Jung Uck Seo) on January 17.
Dr. Tarijanne will visit the SK Telecom Boramae Building and get a briefing on the development of IMT-2000 system and the operation of CDMA system.
The ITU is a UN special organization with 187 member nations. The Union has the mandate to promote international cooperation among member countries for the advancement and rational use of telecommunication, to extend technical assistance to the developing economies and to encourage the nations to come up with global standards. The Union holds the Plenipotentiary meeting every four years and the Council meeting every year. It consists of ITU-R (radio communication), ITU-T (standardization) and ITU-D (development).
Presently, SK Telecom is member of the ITU-R and remains active in the Study Group that deals with studies on spectrum allocation and management, satellite and broadcasting, adoption of recommendations and the enactment and amendment of the international radio regulations.
