Moon Soo Pyo, president of SK Telecom, expressed his vision about the establishment of the Scholarship Foundation: "Nurturing professional manpower and supporting research projects in the IT industry is essential in maintaining the IT Industry as the core growth engine of the Korean economy. SK Telecom gives back to society a portion of the fruits from its business efforts in order to create a better future for Korea and its citizens.
The creation of SK Telecom’s IT Specialized Scholarship Foundation contributes not only to nurturing expert manpower, but also generates great interest in the IT industry by our younger generation. This will help overcome the recent trend of reduced interest in applying for science and engineering courses at the universities.
This Scholarship Foundation is different than the majority of general scholarship foundations sponsored by corporations that assign scholarship funds to the universities. The Scholarship Foundation by SK Telecom will generate a large amount of funds for the exclusive use of the IT section. This will concentrate the scholarship’s operations in that specialized area.
Since 1990, SK Telecom has been conducting a variety of social contribution projects that spend tens of billion won each year to help physically challenged and unfortunate people resolve the information gaps they suffer. Now in addition to these valuable social service contributions, the company is striving to contribute more by adding the ’IT Specialized Scholarship Foundation’ to nurture talented professional manpower that will work toward creating a better future life for all mankind.
