SK IMT Selects Manufacturers to Negotiate with regarding the Supplying of WCDMA Equipment.
2003.01.21 PrintAfter reviewing the results of the 2nd equipment development tests and the accompanying proposals, SK IMT selected Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics as the first two manufacturers to negotiate with for the supply of WCDMA equipment.
Nortel Networks was selected as a second round negotiable supplier.
The technological development of a commercial asynchronous IMT-2000 system is expected to be accelerated.
On January 21st SK IMT, the 3rd generation asynchronous IMT-2000 service provider, announced its selection of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics as the first two manufacturers, and Nortel Networks as a second round manufacturer to negotiate with regarding the supply of WCDMA equipment for the commercial service.
In May 2002, SK IMT selected Nokia, Nortel Networks, Samsung Electronics, Alcatel, LG Electronics as the second round equipment development partners. SK IMT evaluated the proposals of these five candidates in September 2002 and completed the second developmental tests in October last year. As a result, the company finally selected the 3 above-mentioned companies as first and second manufacturers with which to negotiate the supply of WCDMA equipment.
To ensure stable WCDMA service provision, SK IMT will soon discuss specific matters regarding the interoperability of DBDM terminals (Dual Band & Dual Mode), interconnection of service function and equipment, as well as terms and conditions of equipment purchase with the first two manufacturers.
Young Soo Kang, president of SK IMT, said "With the selection of these first two WCDMA equipment manufacturers, the technological development of asynchronous IMT-2000 systems and terminals, and commercial WCDMA service will be accelerated".
