SK Telecom Introduces Phone Mail Service

  • Enabling Transmission of Alphabetical Messages Using Cellular Handsets

SK Telecom (President: Jung Uck Seo) introduces "Phone Mail Service" that allows users to send or receive written messages with a mobile phone. (p align=justify) Unlike the existing Data Messenger Service that allows only receiving messages, Phone Mail Service enables users to compose and send a message to anybody who has an SMS mobile phone. (p align=justify) Messages should be within 40 Korean letters or 80 alphabetical letters, and each message costs 10 won. The service does not require a subscription procedure and is available on a handset with the message sending function in Korean. (p align=justify) The service is expected to be particularly useful to the hearing impaired and users who need to use the handsets for the purpose other than calling. SK Telecom offers free Phone Mail Service until the end of March. (p align=justify) The company says that it will support the upgrading of the handsets without the message sending function, expand the service coverage ?transmission to pagers with the message receiving function - and strengthen the cooperation with the equipment manufacturer for developing more user-friendly handsets.
