The two firms agree to conduct joint marketing and development activities in the wireless Internet business area

This MOU lays the groundwork for advancing into the world’s market with strengthened global competitiveness
On March 3, SK Telecom announced that the company signed an MOU with Nortel Networks, a multinational telecom equipment manufacturer in Canada. This agreement will initiate joint production and marketing activities worldwide in the wireless Internet business area.
Sung Chul Hong, vice-president of SK Telecom’s Global Business Division, and John Giamatteo, president of Nortel Networks’ Asia Pacific Region, oversaw the MOU Signing Ceremony. In the MOU, the two companies agreed to conduct joint development of wireless Internet products, and joint sales in the global market, immediately after testing the interconnectivity between SK Telecom’s solutions and products with Nortel Networks’ wireless infrastructure.
Sung Chul Hong, vice-president of SK Telecom’s Global Business Division stated that, "The company will have an opportunity to strengthen its global business operation that is based on the world’s best level of wireless Internet technology and network operational know-how. The strategic alliance with Nortel Networks will further enhance technological competitiveness, and demonstrate the excellence of, SK Telecom’s wireless Internet solutions. This will be proved by using the R&D facilities of Nortel Networks.
We will be able to rapidly advance into the world’s markets by utilizing Nortel Networks marketing network that is already installed in about 150 countries around the globe".
In addition, John Giamatteo, president of Nortel Networks’ Asia Pacific Region said, "The global competitiveness of both companies is expected to double due to the synergistic effect from combining Nortel Networks’ outstanding technological expertise with SK Telecom’s excellent wireless Internet solutions".

This includes such major players as Verizon Wireless, Vodafone, China Mobile, etc. Nortel Networks’ annual sales equal 11.5 trillion Korean won.
