SK Telecom donates fund for mobile medical service for kids

1999.02.25
Severe economic slowdown under the IMF regime left people with less time or resources to reach out to their poor neighbor, people with disabilities or children without economically viable parents. However, realizing the importance of the cause, SK Telecom has made continuous efforts to give back to the community by staging such nationwide campaigns as "Be a Family for Teenage Breadwinners", "Donate Your Old Pager and Help the Teenage Breadwinners" and "Let’s Make the School Safe". It also donated wheelchairs for the people with disabilities and funded free orthopedic surgery for Vietnamese children with deformed facial features.

As part of its community activities, SK Telecom decided to support mobile medical services for the economically disadvantaged children and on February 24 donated Global Care a vehicle and 56 million won which will be spent on giving surgery and buying medical equipment.

Global Care is a non-government organization (NGO) founded in Korea to provide voluntary medical services to people in villages where no medical services are available, people who live in the cities but cannot afford regular medical services, and countries that are not benefiting from advanced medical technology.

The vehicle will be used to provide medical services to people, especially children, living in villages where there are no doctors or places too far away to be benefited from the regular medical services. And the money will be spent on giving surgery to children whose families cannot afford one and purchasing medical equipment.
