SK Telecom (www.sktelecom.com) announced that the company will showcase a broad spectrum of new technologies focused on the telecom convergence environment in the upcoming ubiquitous era. ’PT/Expo Comm China’ is the largest specialized information technology exhibition in Asia. It is held in every even year under the sponsorship of the Chinese Ministry of Information Industry. About 850 companies from 33 countries that are already doing business in China, or plan to launch into its market, will participate in the exhibition in 2004.
SK Telecom built a 360m2(109pyung) booth at the exhibition hall, and divided it into three "Zone"s that cover ’Global Business’ ’Ubiquitous Town’, and ’Ubiquitous Fun Club’. These are presented to demonstrate that SK Telecom is the Ubiquitous Leader. All of these facilities are available for visitors to directly try a wide range of services that are suitable for convergent and ubiquitous environments.
In the Global Business Zone, the company introduces its global business strategies that are making great inroads into the international telecom market because they are based on the world’s best level of CDMA technological expertise, and service solutions. It also demonstrates the remarkable achievements of its current overseas business operations. Moreover, SK Telecom showcases SK Teletech’s SKY handsets that have already proved their commercial value in Korea, gaining great popularity with SK Telecom subscribers.
In the exhibition, UNISK, a joint venture company formed by SK Telecom and China Unicom, will introduce a wireless portal service called ’U Jok-Bu-Rak’ that was launched in February of this year. UNISK is China’s first joint venture telecom service provider that operates in conjunction with both foreign and national companies.
’U Jok-Bu-Rak’ stands for the cultural community (Bu-Rak) of young elites (U Jok) who pursue joy, pleasure, and happiness through the wireless Internet. UNISK is offering a variety of wireless Internet services through five service categories. These are Picture Mate, Bell Sound, Games, Chatting, and Horoscope.
In the Ubiquitous Town, SK Telecom showcases the convergence technologies that are blending telecommunications and broadcasting, and telecommunications and finance. These are SK Telecom’s future growth engines for the mid and long term. These services include Digital Home, Satellite Digital Mobile Broadcasting, Telematics, and MONETA service.
In the Ubiquitous Fun Club Zone, A vast array of SK Telecom ’Killer’ content will be presented through the wire-line and wireless combined portal service called ’NATE’, and the 3G multimedia service named ’June’. Their content offers customer entertainment as well as convenience.
SK Telecom will determine the exact trends in the global telecommunications market through this event. This will lead to the introduction of a broad spectrum of advanced wireless Internet content filled with commercial value as well as practicality. This will give the company a chance to enhance its corporate image and technological competitiveness, as well as to map out new business plans for advancing into overseas markets, including China.
Young Chul Shin, vice-president and head of SK Telecom’s PR Office commented, "This exhibition will be a good opportunity to demonstrate SK Telecom’s world’s best cutting-edge technology and service know-how to China, and the rest of the world.
