1999.04.20Donates 28 million won in profit from recycling cell phone batteries and handsets
SK Telecom donated the entire profits it had made by staging a campaign against environmental pollution to environmental organizations at a ceremony held today.
The company staged a campaign from December 21, 1998, through January 31, 1999, and gave souvenirs to people who brought used cell phone batteries or handsets.
The company said, "Making souvenirs and advertising cost the company approximately 500 million won and throughout the campaign roughly 100,000 used batteries and handsets have been collected," and added, "the contaminants taken out of the batteries and handsets such as metal hydrogen have been disposed through a disposal company licensed by the Ministry of Environment, and the reusable handsets and part of the lithium-ion batteries were exported."
SK Telecom donated to the Korean Federation for Environmental Movement and Green Korea United the entire profits of 28 million won it had made by selling the used batteries and handsets, 14 million won each.
The company said that it will make the campaign a regular event to contribute to the efforts to make the environment clean.
