Press Release
SK Telecom, Kookmin Bank, and Kiwoom.Com Securities held a strategic alliance ceremony on April 19th
customers are allowed to conduct banking transactions and stock trading with a single chip installed in their mobile phone
The event designed for offering stock information use fee and call rate free of charge will be held until July 19, 2005.
A broad spectrum of banking and stock trading transactions is now available through a single chip installed in a mobile phone.
SK Telecom will launch an integrated financial service that enables banking transactions and stock trading with a single chip installed in a mobile phone. This is a first in Korea. To this end, the company formed strategic alliances with Kookmin Bank and Kiwoom.Com Securities on April 19th in the Bankers Club of the Korea Federation of Banks, located in Myungdong.
This service lets customers conveniently conduct banking transactions and stock trading with their cellular phone without inputting separate customer information, or changing a chip. This is made possible because it stores customer information, as well as banks’ and securities firms’ accounting information, in a single IC chip at all times.
When the customers who do stock trading through Kiwoom.Com Securities use this service, they are able to conduct money transfers for stock trading in a one stop manner. In addition, Kookmin Bank’s customers whose cellular phones have a KB mobile chip, can receive current stock prices with their ID for Kiwoom.Com Securities. In this case, Kookmin Bank’s customers are not required to establish stock trading accounts with Kiwoom.Com Securities.
To use the service customers should install the KB mobile chip issued by Kookmin Bank in an M-Bank service-enabled handset, and download the Kiwoom.Com M-Stock service. Existing Kookmin Bank’s M-Bank customers are allowed to use the service after upgrading their handsets in sales outlets of Kookmin Bank.
Bang Hyung Lee, vice-president of SK Telecom’s Business Group commented, "Through the strategic alliances with Kookmin Bank and Kiwoom.Com Securities, we can bundle the functions of membership, stock trading, and bank transactions in a single chip. In the future, we will facilitate customer convenience by embracing a variety of service functions such as membership cards, stock trading, bank transactions, credit cards, and transportation pass cards in a single chip. This will accelerate the ubiquitous financial era"
SK Telecom is holding an ’M-Bank & Stock Festival’ that is designed to offer flat rates for M-Stock information use (KRW 2,000 per month) and call traffic (KRW 5,000 per month) free of charge to every customer who downloads the Kiwoom.Com M-Stock service after receiving Kookmin Bank’s M-Bank chip. This event will be held until July 19, 2005.
In addition, SK Telecom will provide a 70 minute free call coupon to every customer who receives Kookmin Bank’s M-Bank chip. Kiwoom.Com Securities will donate an MTB bicycle to all customers who have a deposit of more than KRW 200 million in their M-Stock accounts. By drawing lots, it is also offering notebook computers, mini-camcorders, and free movie entrance tickets, to a total of 1,013 customers.
