’1mm’ stands for an extreme closeness between the mobile phone and its users
The service commercializes a personalized service of 10 different information items and characters, as well as interactive communication
A "1mm Expert Agent" service will be launched by the second part of this year
The "1mm" personalized service will increase customer accessibility to wireless Internet services.
The ’1mm’ service in my cellular phone becomes my close friend who takes care of my personal matters.
On April 20th SK Telecom announced the launch of ’1mm’, a personalized service that provides a variety of wireless Internet services adjusted to each user’s preference and situation. This is accomplished through communication with a character displayed on a handset screen.
’1mm’ stands for extreme closeness between a mobile phone and its user. It provides a personalized service that satisfies customers’ needs based on interactive communication between the customers and their mobile phone characters, thus offering the shortest access route. These intelligent characters have a basic understanding regarding the customers’ needs and wants.
SK Telecom’s ’1mm service’ is currently operating on the first screen of the mobile phone through a character-based communication interface. A total of 5 menus are currently offered through this service:
1. ’Play’: communicate with the character inside the handset
2. ’My Buddy’: offers intimate communication between users of ’1mm’
3. ’Item’: offers a personalized service of 10 different information areas, including news, weather, TV programs, movies, and restaurants.
SK Telecom is working to go one step further by offering a service that is even more personalized for each individual. The character from this highly specialized service called ’1mm Expert Agent’ is capable of analyzing a users’ preferences and service use patterns. Thus it is able to recommend customized external services to users that tend to use a specific service frequently.
As part of a series of ’1mm Expert Agent Services’, SK Telecom plans to introduce a ’Melon Agent Service’ connected with the Melon service wired and wireless music portal, by July of this year.
The ’1mm’ service lets customers acquire information they want by reflecting their service use pattern through the ’1mm’ service character. It lets customers directly connect to the wireless Internet menu by offering interactive communication with the character. This saves a great deal of customer information search time and effort, while using wireless Internet services. Furthermore, the ’1mm Expert Agent Service’ offers high quality content because various outside content providers participate in this service.
There are 3 handset models that currently offer the ’1mm service’. This includes two models that are already available, LG Electronics’ SD340 and SD870, and a model from Samsung Electronics that was introduced on the 20th called SCH V650. Around 25 additional terminals will be introduced during this year, including 10 from Samsung Electronics.
Users can enjoy this service for a monthly flat rate of KRW 1,200. Data usage fees and information usage fees are charged separately. Memo exchanges between 1mm service users is charged KRW 30 foe each use. However, no additional fee is charged for chatting with the character. SK Telecom will launch a separate rate plan for ’1mm Expert Agent Service’ in the near future.
Song-I Yun, head of SK Telecom’s CI Business Division commented, "As the mobile phone usage environment is getting more complicated and diversified, customers have a great deal of interest in receiving information as fast and accurately as possible. The ’1mm’ service offers easier and more convenient wireless Internet services. This will greatly facilitate our customers’ accessibility to wireless Internet services"
The official also noted that the ’1mm’ service will evolve into an intellectual form that proactively learns, thus fulfilling the needs of customers going forward. In addition, the service could bring an innovative paradigm shift in wireless Internet usage patterns by the customers.
To use the ’1mm’ service, customers should press the ’1mm’ service subscription button" in the Internet site (1mm.nate.com), or press the ’1mm’ button located in the upper part of the cellular phone menu, by accessing wireless Internet NATE.
