SK telecom plans to launch its Automatic roaming service in the Java area of Indonesia, and then Expand the service to the Bali area
the company expects that the number of roaming service users will reach over two million This year
On April 22, SK Telecom announced the launch of its Automatic Roaming Service in the Java area of Indonesia. SK Telecom subscribers traveling to this area can now use the same number and handset they used in Korea.
A service rate of approximately KRW 369 per minute will be charged when receiving or making local calls in Indonesia, and approximately KRW 2,287 per minute(based on the 1US$=1019.70 exchange rate of April 18th, 2005) when making international calls to Korea. The service in Indonesia allows users to receive SMSs as well as enjoy the ’Call Keeper Service’ and the Caller ID service.
After beginning the service in Australia in September of 2000, SK Telecom has continued to expand its automatic roaming service to many other countries, including the U.S., Japan, China, Canada, New Zealand, and Hong Kong. The company is currently providing this service in 15 countries around the globe, including Indonesia.
In the near future SK Telecom plans to expand the CDMA automatic roaming service to the Bali area of Indonesia, as well as the island of Java. The company expects that the number of roaming service users will reach over two million this year as service users are increasing steadily.
To use this service, the cellular handsets that are used in Korea require a menu setting that allows the handset to receive the local mobile phone service providers’ frequency. Once the customers get a roaming service guide from SK Telecom’s International Roaming Center located in the 3rd floor Departure Gate and Duty Free Area (in front of Gate No 28) at the Incheon International Airport, they can simply make necessary changes, and operate the cellular handset menu on their own.
