A variety of ubiquitous services aimed at the convergence environment will be showcased for five days starting on October 18th
the latest ubiquitous service technologies, including mobile RFID, will be presented.
UNISK’s ’U Jok-Bu-Rak’ service will also be introduced. This will lay a solid foundation for SK Telecom to expand its global operations.
SK Telecom(www.sktelecom.com) announced that the company will participate in ’PT/Wireless & Networks Comm China 2005’, and showcase the world’s best level of new ubiquitous technologies that are aimed at the wired and wireless combined convergence environment. This exposition will take place in Beijing, China from October 18th to the 22nd.
’PT/Wireless & Networks Comm China’ is the largest specialized information technology exhibition in Asia. It is held once every two years under the sponsorship of the Chinese Ministry for the Information Industry. About 500 companies around the globe that are already doing business in China, or plan to launch into its market, will participate in the exhibition in 2005. The number of visitors is expected to reach about 250,000.
Under the slogan ’Ubiquitous Leader, SK Telecom’, SK Telecom will build a 360m2(about 109pyung) booth at the exhibition hall, and divide it into two sectors that cover ’Ubiquitous and Convergence Services’ and ’Multimedia and Entertainment Services’. These facilities will be available for visitors to directly try a wide range of new technology-based mobile communications services.
In the ’Ubiquitous and Convergence Services’ sector, SK Telecom will present the convergence service technologies between different industries that are blending telecommunications and broadcasting, and telecommunications and finance. These include the Digital Home, Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting, and MONETA. In addition, the company plans to demonstrate state-of-the-art services by applying Machine-To-Machine (M2M) solutions, e.g. CDMA network-based wireless gauging / security systems, mobile parking management solutions, etc.
In particular, SK Telecom will first introduce mobile RFID-based new service technologies. These include a ’Merchandise Information Service’ that lets users trace the distribution channels and gain information about goods via mobile phone by infra red reading of tags attached to goods (wines or music CDs), as well as a pilot ’Genuine Ginseng Verification Service’ that is designed to authenticate genuine ginseng products through RFID tag information.
In the ’Multimedia and Entertainment Services’ sector, a vast array of wireless Internet services will be presented. These include the wired and wireless combined music portal called ’MelOn’, GXG 3D mobile games, and NATE photo that lets users instantly develop the photos taken by phone camera. Furthermore, SK Telecom will introduce beneficial information services for people’s daily lives, e.g. a Mobile Book and Mobile Dictionary that searches vocabularies in Chinese.
To add to the above, UNISK, a joint venture company formed by SK Telecom and China Unicom, will exhibit a wireless portal service called ’U Jok-Bu-Rak’ which stands for the cultural community (Bu-Rak) of young elites (U Jok). This service lets users enjoy about 100 wireless content areas that include news, games, chatting, and other entertainment.
SK Telecom will determine the exact trends in the global telecommunications market through this event in order to introduce a broad spectrum of advanced wireless Internet content filled with commercial value as well as practicality. This will give the company a chance to enhance its corporate image and technological competitiveness, as well as map out new business plans for advancing into overseas markets, including China.
Shin Bae Kim, president of SK Telecom commented, "This exhibition will be a good opportunity to demonstrate SK Telecom’s world’s best cutting-edge technology and service know-how to Asia, as well as the rest of the world. We expect ’PT/Wireless & Networks Comm China’, the largest specialized information technology exhibition in Asia, to furnish great momentum toward accomplishing our new strategic growth plans that will help our global businesses become the company’s future growth drivers"
