1999.07.27Awarded comprehensive IT & Non-IT certification by TUV
SK Telecom said that the company was awarded a Y2K compliance certificate for the information technology (IT) and non-IT areas by the prestigious international certification-issuing body TUV Product Service.
With the award, SK Telecom became the first Korean telecom company to win certification by an organization of international authority
The certification is a comprehensive one that covers SK Telecom’s mobile and paging services as well as Iridium (GMPCS) and Netsgo (online service) and proof that not only the technology it uses but also the equipment and facilities are safe and secure from the threat of the Y2K bug
Particularly given that whether a company is Y2K compliant is an important consideration for international investors making investment decisions, the certification by an international certifier is expected to boost greatly the company’s international credibility, says SK Telecom.
In the assessment, TUV gave high marks to SK Telecom for its methodical process implementation and good test results and noted that the company’s level of compliance was higher than that of most European companies especially in the aspect of documentation.
An SK Telecom official said, "Getting certified as compliant for its mobile, paging, Iridium satellite service as well as content services means that the company can be trusted to deliver stable services both at home and abroad," and "SK Telecom pledges the same level of commitment to implementing the follow-up procedures and preparing contingency plans to maintain high-level Y2K readiness.
