On June 8th Jung Nam Cho, vice-chairman of SK Telecom, received a distinguished service medal from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. This award was given in recognition of the opening of the ’Customer Exploratorium Outlet’ in Jongro. A Ministry’s official stated that SK Telecom has contributed to the improvement of enterprises’ outdoor advertisement culture by fully responding to the Ministry’s policy to promote appropriate signboard installation practices that create a beautiful and pleasant urban environment.
The signboard at SK Telecom’s ’Customer Exploratorium Outlet’ features excellence in design that perfectly suits the urban street culture, as well as reducing visual disturbance by minimizing internal and external lighting. It also reduced environmental contamination factors as it is made of eco-friendly recycling materials with strong durability. In addition, the signboard allows for energy-saving as its power consumption is 75% less than that of a conventional signboard. It achieves this by minimizing the lighting effects.
"Signboards in Korea were one of main factors detrimental to the city views due to their large size and dazzling colors. It was hard to solve this problem. However, the SK Telecom signboard has fully complied with government policy through its eco-friendly materials and design that considers the city view" said Myung Gon Kim, Minister of Culture and Tourism, at the prize awarding ceremony in SK Telecom’s Jong-ro branch office.
Vice-chairman Cho also commented "I am pleased that SK Telecom’s ’Customer Exploratorium Outlet has contributed to the creation of a beautiful city view as it increases the company’s image".
