Press Release
service based on telephone list stored in cellular phone, no separate registration of contacts necessary.
user Interface in the form of chatting windows, web-like environment where emoticons and flashcons can be used.
Teen usage of Web-based e-mail is dropping.
In search of a faster, more fluid way to communicate with friends, today’s so-called "instant generation" is turning to text messaging and IM instead.
Gone is the age of voice, here now is the age of text...
Perhaps that is why text messaging and instant messengers are the most popular means of communication nowadays. However, what text messaging lacks is "instantaneity" while instant messaging lacks "mobility".
"m Messenger", released by SK Telecom on August 7, is a mobile-exclusive messenger service for Netizens and Motizens that wish to use text to engage in interactive communication anytime, anywhere.
The major characteristic of ’m Messenger" is that the phone number book stored in the individual’s mobile handset can be used for (messenger) communicating, without a separate "contacts registration process" as in the case of existing messengers.
The messenger functions have been designed to enhance convenience, with no separate log-in process necessary, and users can wait for a friend to join in the conversation while the folder is closed.
But just as in the case of wireline messengers, emoticons, flashcons and photographs may be transmitted during conversation, along with "save the conversation" function, allowing users familiar with the existing wireline UI to adjust easily to the user environment.
Up to 80 Bytes (40 Korean characters) can be input in the form of text or emoticons, with the fee being 20 won per message. In the case of flashcons, each cost a separate 20 won apart from the text, while photographs cost 200 won per transmission.
In order to use this service, "m Messenger" can be downloaded for free from "NATE >> Chatting/Messaging/Community >> Messenger/Star/Photo Text >> Messenger", with downloads possible via the "Recommending" function within m Messenger. In August and September, 100 messages with the exception of photo transmissions are planned to be provided for free.
Going forward, the related functions will be installed as default in all cellular phones released by SK Telecom, and for the time being usage will only be possible among SK Telecom users, while to subscribers of other service providers messages will be sent in the form of SMS.
