SK Telecom will end analogue mobile service on January 1, 2000

SK Telecom announced today that it would terminate its analogue mobile services from January 1, 2000.

The company said the analogue service would be delivered until 24:00, December 31, 1999, and subscribing to analogue service would be no longer possible after October 23, 1999.

First introduced in 1984, analogue services are quickly being replaced by CDMA-based digital services.

Analogue users will be able to use various enhanced services such as hangul (Korean alphabet) and wireless data services and enjoy improved connectivity once they switch to digital services.

Commenting on the company?s decision to terminate its analogue services, SK Telecom President Jung Nam Cho said, ?The service quality for analogue users will be maintained at the current level, which is high, and the company will continue to expand the coverage for digital services and develop new enhanced services to make available more diverse and convenient services to digital users.?
