2007.02.12
  • A public demonstration of the T LOGIN roaming service was presented at the 2007 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

  • SK Telecom is targeting the offering of this service to businesspersons or travelers who need to use the Internet while abroad.

  • The company will continue to expand the `T LOGIN` roaming service coverage into overseas countries in which WCDMA networks exist.

SK Telecom subscribers can now enjoy the wireless Internet via a notebook computer in any region around the globe in which a mobile phone network is available. ’T LOGIN’ makes this possible as it enables subscribers to connect a universal serial bus (USB)-based mobile phone modem to the notebook computer.

SK Telecom announced on February 12 that it successfully conducted a public demonstration of ’T LOGIN’ international roaming at the 2007 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

’T LOGIN’, SK Telecom’s wireless Internet service, is serving as a growth driver of high speed data packet access (HSDPA). Since its launch in September of 2006, the number of T LOGIN subscribers had reached over 55,000 as of February 2007. The public demonstration of its international roaming service clearly proves that Korea ’s advanced 3G technology has reached a world class level. It also has great significance, because it puts its users in the age of 3G Automatic Roaming which lets subscribers enjoy data, as well as voice communications while abroad.

Starting with Spain, SK Telecom is poised to stretch ’T LOGIN’ roaming coverage gradually to all of the WCDMA automatic roaming service areas around the world. The company also plans to extend the benefit and convenience of the T LOGIN automatic roaming service to businesspersons or travelers who desire to use the Internet while staying abroad.

To date SK Telecom is providing the WCDMA automatic roaming service in sixteen countries including Singapore, Italy, Japan and France. This has been made possible by establishing alliances with 26 mobile operators worldwide. The company will continue to expand the roaming service coverage.

Bang Hyung Lee, executive vice-president and head of SK Telecom’s Mobile Network Operator Business Group commented, “The ’T LOGIN’ automatic roaming service will greatly improve the mobility and convenience of the Internet. Since the ’T LOGIN’ subscribers are increasing at a rapid pace in Korea, we will keep expanding our global roaming coverage with a view to facilitating subscriber convenience in the use of the Internet while abroad.”
