SK Telecom appoints President Ha Sung Min as CEO and President of Platform Business So Jin Woo as Co-CEO
SK Telecom (NYSE:SKM) today announced the official appointments of President Ha Sung Min as Chief Executive Officer, and President of Platform Business So Jin Woo as Co-Chief Executive Officer.
The new leadership was formalized at the company’s Board of Directors Meeting on March 11. Ha and So were appointed as new executive directors through SK Telecom’s Annual Shareholders Meeting held earlier on the same day.
As CEO and President, Ha will serve as the overall representative and management leader of SK Telecom, while So, as Co-CEO and President of Platform Business, will be responsible for leading the company’s effort to find new growth engines through its platform strategy.
Ha joined SK Telecom in 1996 and developed his career in the fields of finance and strategy. As Head of Strategic Planning Office, Ha undertook many milestone projects that significantly contributed to the growth of SK Telecom. From 2008 to 2010, Ha was President of the Mobile Network Operation Business Unit (MNO Company-in-Company), where he oversaw the full range of telecom business, including wireless broadband as well as fixed-line services. Ha was a driving force in leading the company to excel in Korea’s highly competitive mobile market, and to position itself as one of the most innovative mobile carriers in the world.
So headed SK Telecom’s New/Global Strategy Division from 2004 to 2007, during which he was responsible for overall global business strategy, development, and execution of new businesses. He served as President and Head of Global Management Service (GMS) in 2009, and also President and Head of Convergence & Internet Business in 2010. During this time, So led SK Telecom’s growth into a global top player by building the global business portfolio of the company based on leading mobile network operation and convergence capabilities.
SK Telecom said that the appointment of a CEO and a co-CEO will contribute to strengthening responsible management and completeness of each Business Unit (CIC), thereby accelerating the company’s growth momentum.
