Credit Card Service Over Cell Phones Becomes Available

2000.04.28
  • SK Telecom Introduces New Credit Card Service

  • WAP Phone Allows Credit Card Payment Without a Card Reader

SK Telecom announced the introduction of the first WAP-based ?Credit Card Payment and Status Checking Service over Mobile Phone? in the world. The company will begin to provide the new service with KIS Communications and KOVAN from May 8.

Users can type in their credit card number, amount and monthly payment period using their WAP-enabled Speed 011 phones to make payment for their purchases and conduct other transactions currently allowed to credit card holders.

At present, checking the status of credit card usage and making payments require separate procedures ? the former done mostly using ARS and the latter using a card reader. The new service, doing away with the inconveniences the card users experience, allows users to make payments or verify the bank checks by simply connecting to n.TOP service, which makes it handy to business people constantly on the move.

An SK Telecom officer says, ?Because of its convenience and the fact that it helps save costs, we believe that insurance and car sales people that frequently make door-to-door visits to contact customers will particularly find the new service attractive.?

SK Telecom Launches Domain Name Search and Registration Service

It seems that we can now search and register domain names using our cell phones.

SK Telecom said on May 9 that it had joined forces with Internet domain name search and registration service company Whois to make available the services to its mobile service users.

Using new services, SK Telecom?s Speed011 users can log on to the company?s mobile Internet service n.TOP and conduct searches on the domain names of their interest or register any unregistered domain names on the spot.

For instance, in order to check if the domain name you are interest in is a registered name, log on to n.TOP and,
First, go to the Information Network menu.
Second, select Information Search.
Third, select Domain Name Search.
Fourth, enter, say, ?IMT2000?
Fifth, enter the root name (ex) .com)
Then it shows whether the name you just entered is registered or not.

As domain names emerge recently as a new investment tool, SK Telecom believes that its new Domain Name Search and Registration Service will further increase the utility of mobile service in business.

SK Telecom manager Chun Joo Ho says, ?Every month, 60,000 new domain names get registered and the number is increasing at an accelerating pace. It is a compelling reason why we believe that the demand for domain name search and registration service over mobile Internet will increase dramatically.?
