SK Telecom?s ERP System Inauguration a Big Success

Serving as Base Infrastructure for B2B
SK Telecom said May 17 that it had inaugurated successfully its ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system designed to help the company respond effectively to the fast-changing market environment and strengthen its competitiveness.
The new system integrates the company?s accounting, finance/budget and procurement operations into one, allowing real-time sharing of corporate data and making decisions in an expedited manner while ensuring transparency in corporate management.
In addition, the new system serves as the base infrastructure for business-to-business transactions, significantly improving its corporate customer service and the process dealing with the suppliers. The new ERP system is expected to bring significant ramifications throughout the company?s supply chain.
SK Telecom decided to introduce an ERP system in May 1998 and formed a task force consisting of in-house experts in each relevant area. It purchased SAP Korea?s SAP R/3 software package and began to work on building the system in earnest in August 1999 in collaboration with Deloitte Consulting.
The company is planning to introduce a new ERP system for asset/facility management and inventory management as the next step realizing SEM, which will be followed by an ERP system for advanced personnel management system and ABC. This third step that completes the company?s ERP plan will finish by the year 2002.
SK Telecom Managing Director Lee Myung Sung says, ?The introduction of ERP system indicates our strong determination to make another leap towards the goal of becoming a true global company. We expect that the system help us magnify our competency and performance while reinventing ourselves as a much stronger company well prepared for the so-called e-management era.
